The keyboard is the thing I use most on my phone. I’m a pretty heavy texter and messager, so having the best keyboard to keep up with all this is important to me. I have been using the stock keyboard that comes with Ice Cream Sandwich since Christmas, when I started using my Nexus S. Prior to that, I would used HTC’s IME keyboards, which were better in my opinion. The ICS keyboard was acceptable, but sometimes the auto correction wasn’t accurate enough and sometimes the keyboard lagged. In comes Swiftkey. I’d seen review of this everywhere, but had never really tried it - that was a mistake.

Review:

For a start, the keys on Swiftkey are a bit larger than the stock keyboard’s, it makes hitting keys a lot  accurate and increases the room for error, so you can essentially type a lot quicker. Of course, fast typing is only as useful as auto correction, and I’m pleased to say that Swiftkey has brilliant auto correction and word prediction - it’s almost as if the phone guesses what word you want to type and also guesses what word you want to type next. Sometimes you don’t even need to put the space in between words, as Swiftkey will recognize them as separates words and will automatically put a space in between. Pretty clever. The result is that you can get up to some pretty ridiculous typing speeds.

The keyboard is a lot more responsive than the stock ICS keyboard; I have noticed a lot lock ups less freezes and less freezes. The setting for Swiftkey are also pretty comprehensive, with a better range of customization such as appearance and vibration and sound feedback setting, as well as some other more interesting options like setting the size of the keys, and also the option to set Swiftkey to ‘learn’ your typing style from your text messages on your phone - which is really handy. 

Overall, this is the best keyboard for Android devices bar none. I have tried out others, and this beats them all. The speed, reliability, and outstanding word prediction and auto correction make this a much better alternative to the stock keyboard.
